Give Local is on National Philanthropy Day, next Wednesday, Nov. 15.
In 1986, Congress proclaimed Nov. 15 as National Philanthropy Day, which is why Give Local is held annually on this day. In his address marking the day, President Ronald Reagan said, “when people are helping one another…concern for one’s fellow man becomes part of the nation’s soul.” This sentiment remains true 37 years later in 2023 caring for our fellow man must always be part of the nation’s soul.
American philanthropy thrives when individuals and organizations join together to create communities that care for the needs of all people. As in the original 1986 National Philanthropy Day Act, the call is for all sectors and all people to notice the needs around them, and to get involved in causes which deepen the quality of life for our fellow Americans.
Every day, our community is made stronger by the tireless work of individuals who serve others. National Philanthropy Day and Give Local is a time for all of us to band together to lift up these community champions.
On Nov. 15 this year, we can all get involved by donating time, talent and treasure to the organizations that are working hard to make our community the best it can be. This year, the Give Local campaign features a record number of nonprofit organizations — the hardworking staff and board leaders of these 80 agencies make our community stronger.
Since 2016, this community has raised nearly $1.7 million through Give Local for nonprofit organizations serving residents of Lancaster and Chester counties, since the campaign expanded to include all of Chester County last year. This year we aim to break through the $2million mark. Let’s show the nation and world how we unite for the common good on this National Philanthropy Day.
Let’s come together during Give Local for the common good this season, and always.
